New grocery store to open at KC’s Red Bridge Shopping Center

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A new grocery store is aiming to open this year in the Red Bridge Shopping Center, one year after the neighborhood’s only grocer closed.

The Sun Fresh Market at Red Bridge and Holmes roads closed in January 2023, leaving the south Kansas City community without a grocery store. The next closest one is miles away.

But last summer, Kansas City leaders announced Red Bridge Farm Fresh Market will open in the shopping center.

On Wednesday, developers said they are aiming for a late spring to early summer opening.

Construction is set to start in the next few weeks on exterior upgrades, and the former Sun Fresh building will also undergo significant interior work, developer LANE4 Property Group said.

LANE4 also released new renderings Wednesday of what Red Bridge Farm Fresh Market will soon look like.

The new Farm Fresh Market location will focus on “providing quality produce at competitive prices, featuring a variety of fruits, vegetables, meats and seafood,” developers said.

The grocery store will also have a full-service deli, bakery, liquor selection and special Fruitopia counter.

“We consistently compete with the big names by providing better selections at better prices,” said Moe Muslet, Farm Fresh Market manager. “We’re excited to launch this new store concept in a neighborhood as strong as Red Bridge.”

The store expects to create over 80 new jobs with an average wage of $15/hour.

This isn’t the only new store opening at Red Bridge recently. In December, two local businesses — The Limit Pub & Grub and Berries + Honey — opened their doors.

Red Bridge is home to over 80% local-owned businesses.
