Kansas City café taking over former BBQ restaurant downtown

With an appetite for growth, a local restaurant is taking over the former Plowboys Barbeque location at 1111 Main St. in downtown Kansas City.

Banksia, An Australian Bakehouse & Café co-founder Robert Joseph said the new space more than triples the seating of its current downtown location at 105 W. 9th St., which often serves 300 to 400 people on Saturdays and Sundays.

Banksia outgrew the roughly 1,900-square-foot space, he said, and opted to not renew its lease. For now, the 9th Street location will remain open but will permanently close a few days before the Main Street location opens this year.

“This is a significant expansion and would easily triple our revenue opportunity,” Joseph said.
