SHAWNEE, Kan. – A local barber knows what it takes to help keep Kansas City Chiefs players looking fresh for game day.
The owner of a Shawnee barber shop has had several football players roll through the doors over the years needing a fresh cut.
Angel “The Master Barber,” who owns Jireh Barber Shop in Shawnee and Gardner, said he’s worked with more than a handful of athletes who’ve played for the Chiefs over the years.
“It’s my passion,” Angel said. “I love my life.”
He has a passion for cutting hair, something he’s been doing for nearly 30 years. He’s also a huge Chiefs fan. You can hear it and see it sitting in his chair.
He’s done work for Chiefs players like running back Deneric Prince and offensive linemen Donovan Smith and Jawaan Taylor.
“Jawaan used a temp fade and the beard, too,” Angel said. “The first time, he got that big beard. Next time, he wanted only a goatee.”
“I was nervous,” Angel said. “I wanted him to have the best cut.”
Angel said sometimes it’s a house call or they come to the shop. Either way, Angel hopes to make professional athletes feel their best before they take the field on a national stage.
Alejandro Rivera said he’s also cut Prince’s hair.
“Wonderful experience,” Rivera said.
They feel blessed to work with incredible athletes who are now headed to the Super Bowl.
“God is good,” Angel said.
Angel said he pays it forward. He’s taught at a barber school for 19 years.
He said if his clients want something unique, he can create it.
“I work on all designs, stylings, color, no matter what, I’m working,” Angel said. “This is my life.”
Like the Chiefs, Angel stays sharp, ready to answer the call.
“I’m ready, when he calls me, I got you,” Angel said.
