KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Fans aren’t the only people pining for the Super Bowl on Sunday.
Kansas City metro restaurants are gearing up for a weekend of big orders leading up to Sunday’s big game as the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles.
Popular spots like Joe’s Kansas City BBQ in KCK know takeout will be in high demand leading up to the game. Ryan Barrows, a vice president at Joe’s, said his staff ordered enough food to meet the large orders.
Joe’s isn’t always open on Sundays, but Super Bowl weekend will likely see a 15 percent increase over a normal busy day.
“I’ve done it before. The celebrations and preparations we do during all the major holidays—the Thanksgiving we do and the Christmas holiday. We practiced a lot,” Barrows said Friday.
At metro pizzerias like Minsky’s location on 51st Street, employees will be taking orders all day Sunday, but they advise customers to order ahead.
“Get in early,” said Paul Langley, Minsky’s manager. “The sooner the better. Thus we can prepare for these times. That way we don’t fall behind. We can plan everything and pull it all off.”
The popular chicken wings at The Peanut on State Line Road are already in demand. The store’s general manager, Khalil Booshehri, said a customer ordered 15 dozen wings for a Super Bowl party. That location for The Peanut started taking orders on Monday.
“Hopefully the Chiefs win and everyone is happy and smitten, but the service standards have to be there. We have to make sure people have a good time,” Booshehri told FOX4.
Every restaurant manager I spoke to also talked about preparing staff for a busy time. Many of these companies are going with an “all hands on deck” policy and — like the Chiefs — are preparing to play their best game on Sunday.
